Rivera - Downtown Los Angeles/across from Staples Center

Every now and then I stumble across a restaurant that offers late night dinners and small plates for a reduced price. Rivera hits the mark with a late night menu that includes 6 choices of small plates from $6-$10 each and 14 amazing drink concoctions from $8-$10 and an incredible 3 choices of fantastic beers for $4.
Our late night dinner date included Mussels negro:black mussels,a mouthwatering Peruvian aji amarillo sauce and hearty slice of country bread for dipping ($10) Enchilada: Old fashioned red chili chicken enchilada ($8). Mike opted for two Belgian beers at $4 each and I couldn't resist a cool tangy mixed drink called "Pegu club"( $8). By the way the mixologist at Rivera is one of the top contenders in the state, only serving the freshest ingredients(no pre mixers here folks)and the most innovative drinks I have seen in a long time. Oh and did I mention the Chef is none other than the famed John Sedlar (St. Estephe, Abiquiu) WOW! John is not only famous because of his incredible cooking but also for his politically incorrect plate stencils(you have to see it to understand it) The price and quality of his late night dinner menu can't be beat.
This restaurant is not to missed if a late night date is in your future (10:30pm -12:00am late menu) Super hip decor and entertainment industry gathering place, but being across from staples center that is to be expected. In fact, I was nearly bumping elbows with Barbara Streisand and James Brolin and the president of MGM. So, if you want to be seen in one of the newest hot spots without spending and arm and a leg I highly suggest Rivera be on the top of your list. Last but not least a huge shout out to owner Bill Chiat for taking Mike and I on a personal tour of the kitchen, you made us feel right at home. Also a special thanks to our wonderful server Michelle.

Total price for our date including tax and 15% tip = $41.91

Introduction

Hello everyone,
It is my hope that this blog will connect Los Angeles and surrounding residents with fun options for weekly date nights. My name is Amy Tremonti, I have been married to the most wonderful man in the world, Michael Schoepke for nearly 17 years. Two years ago we moved from "ho hum" suburbia Santa Clarita to Downtown Los Angeles. My husband works in Telecommunications and I own a Travel Agency called " Cruiseone ", we have one gorgeous daughter who is a very talented actress (who will remain nameless) and two pain in the ass dogs who run my life, but how I adore them. I wouldn't know what to without my best buddies.
Moving to Downtown Los Angeles was the best thing we did in a long time, everyone thought we were crazy and now all our friends want to come over and hang out.......see what the cool urbanites are up to.

So, getting back to the blog. Mike and I our die hard "foodies" we love great food, delicious wine and great atmosphere but don't care to spend an arm and a leg experiencing it. So, last summer we started mandatory date night (ya know keepin it real with the hubby) but we wanted to keep it under $45.00 for the night. Mike thought I was crazy and never would be able to do it. Don't ever tell your wife she can't do something....because you know ladies it only makes us try harder. Well, low and behold week after week I was finding many great restaurants and activities to do under $45.00 and haven't looked back since and with all the money I am saving my husband now thinks I walk on water but of course I have been telling him that for years.

Starting next Monday May 11Th I will blog every Monday with a different date night idea for the Los Angeles and nearby surrounding areas. My date night will always include food for two, one alcoholic or non alcoholic drink for each person, gratuity of 15% and every now and then an added activity, all for under $45.00. So, I look forward to sharing my ideas and hearing any ideas you might have.
